Just the one shade of grey

We do adore a good restoration challenge!

One of the last commission requests that we received in 2020 definitely turned out to be one of our favourites

The Challenge

Our client approached us with a request to see if we could have a look at a garden bench that had been in the family for many years and that had a certain amount of sentimental value. Rather than go for refurbished woodwork the client wanted something new so we ran through various timber options for new slats.

They decided to go full on and settled on some lovely European Oak which turned out to be the perfect choice to compliment the gun metal colour for the frame.

The next challenge was to source a a low table that could double as a bench and this was found at a local auction in a similar state to the bench.

The Result

Spending that bit more for new quality timber does have a striking effect and allows you to change the design more easily. In this case the table especially benefited with extra wide slats and a 'floating' edge supported by new metalwork. The bench has been brought right up to date with a classy grey finish that contrasts beautifully with the treated and waxed oak.
